Lost & Found
This term we have been reading Lost & Found by Oliver Jeffers. We have been learning all about the south pole and some of the animals that live there. One of the animals that we learned about was a penguin. We found out lots of information about them and we really enjoyed making these pictures.
Numeracy Term 4 - Measurement
This term we have had great fun exploring and investigating measurement. In the playground, we used a metre stick to measure the width and length of different areas. We have also been learning about volume and capacity using relevant vocabulary such as full, empty and half full. The children have explored objects which have different weights by using balance scales and estimating with their hands. E.g.. do the two objects feel the same? Which one is heavy?
Numeracy Term 2
We have been learning to add two groups together and finding the total. Using a number line we can add 0,1 and 2 to a number. The children have been introduced doubling a number to 5. After Christmas we will continue with addition and learn number stories to 5.
Nativity Show
P1 have been working very with P2 and P3 rehearsing for our Nativity show Busy Busy Bethlehem. We are looking forward to showing you our talents on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th December. Come along and enjoy the show!
P1b News
In Primary 1, we have been busy following the city wide Read Write Inc programme and have started to learn sounds, letter formation, word building and the early stages of learning to read and write! We have met Fred Frog who helps us each day and he is rather impressed with the childrens' progress! So far, we have learnt m a s d t i n p and any additional practise of these sounds at home will help your child.
In Numeracy, we have learnt to form numerals 0-9 and each days we practise counting up and down to 10 and seem to get better each day! We enjoy joining in with number songs, poems and rhymes and are able to count amounts using different objects with increasing accuracy. We have taken our learning outside and using chalk, have taken great delight in decorating Mrs Gallacher's front playground with numbers and shapes.
Before the children started in the afternoons, we celebrated our book study of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle with a tea party. We got dressed up, danced, sang and enjoyed a class picnic before a short performance to parents and invited adults.
Our topic over the last few weeks has been 'All About Me' and we are enjoying our weekly Newstime sessions where we have the opportunity to share with the rest of the class information about ourselves, our family, favourite hobbies etc. This is good practise for turn taking and learning to speak to an audience as well as pose interesting questions.
I look forward to meeting with you all next week
Regards
Mrs S Newman :)
