P1b News
In Primary 1, we have been busy following the city wide Read Write Inc programme and have started to learn sounds, letter formation, word building and the early stages of learning to read and write! We have met Fred Frog who helps us each day and he is rather impressed with the childrens' progress! So far, we have learnt m a s d t i n p and any additional practise of these sounds at home will help your child.
In Numeracy, we have learnt to form numerals 0-9 and each days we practise counting up and down to 10 and seem to get better each day! We enjoy joining in with number songs, poems and rhymes and are able to count amounts using different objects with increasing accuracy. We have taken our learning outside and using chalk, have taken great delight in decorating Mrs Gallacher's front playground with numbers and shapes.
Before the children started in the afternoons, we celebrated our book study of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle with a tea party. We got dressed up, danced, sang and enjoyed a class picnic before a short performance to parents and invited adults.
Our topic over the last few weeks has been 'All About Me' and we are enjoying our weekly Newstime sessions where we have the opportunity to share with the rest of the class information about ourselves, our family, favourite hobbies etc. This is good practise for turn taking and learning to speak to an audience as well as pose interesting questions.
I look forward to meeting with you all next week
Regards
Mrs S Newman :)
